To set up as a new CompuServe customer, follow these steps:
Signup for CompuServe Information service (CIS)
1. Drag the connect file named "CompuServe" from its present location,
and drop it on the ProTERM > Services folder. This will make it
available in the ProTERM Connect menu.
2. Choose "Rebuild" from the ProTERM Connect menu.
3. Choose "CompuServe" from the ProTERM Connect menu.
4. Click the Connect button to call CompuServe.
5. ProTERM will automatically call and log you into the CompuServe new
customer signup area.
6. CompuServe will ask you to enter you local area code and phone
number. After doing this, CompuServe responds with a local access
phone number for your area.
7. Type BYE to disconnect from CompuServe.
8. After the disconnect, choose "CompuServe" from the ProTERM Connect
menu
9. Enter the phone number just obtained from following the above steps.
10. Change the Speed as needed to match your setup.
<> IMPORTANT: Do not miss step #11
11. Click the Connect button to dial. After making the connection with
CompuServe, and when the screen clears, press CONTROL-C (press and
hold the Control key while also pressing the C key) to allow the CIS
host to detect your carrier.
12. The "User ID:" prompt will appear on the screen.
13. At "User ID," enter 177000,2000 -- press RETURN.
14. At Password, enter EXPLORE/WORLD and press RETURN.
15. When asked for the Agreement number, enter: LC1297 and press RETURN.
16. When asked for a Serial Number, enter: 44877211 and press RETURN.
Have your credit card handy for reference. As you proceed you will be
asked for your name, address and billing information. You will also
be given an opportunity to read the CompuServe service agreements.
You will be assigned a personal CompuServe number and asked for a
password. You may also be advised that you can use your name instead
of a number, but we advise against that at this time, because
CompuServe customers that have chosen the name instead of the number
have reported that their mail is too resticted and have opted to have
CompuServe management change their account back to a number. Also,
you can change the password anytime.
<> IMPORTANT: The CompuServe file used above is set up to call the 800
new customer area and log in automatically. Since you will not be
call that part of CompuServe now, you will need to make a change in
the ProTERM dial style file before calling back.
1. With the CompuServe dial style window open, click the "Logon" radio
button at the top of the window.
2. You should log on manually the first few times. We recommend you do
this until you get used to the log in process and find out where it
is you want to go when you call CompuServe. Click in the small window
titled "Logon Macro:" and choose OFF.
3. Click the Connect button to dial. After you connect, enter your new
account and password information.
<> To automate your logon process, choose "Learn" in the "Logon Macro:"
window. Logon without making any mistakes, and when you get to the
point where you want ProTERM to take you to on all subsequent calls,
click the "LEARN" button in the AutoLearn window, and press the
RETURN key to save your new AutoLogon script.
See the ProTERM user manual Index: AutoLearn macros to learn how to
create an AutoLogon Macro.
To completely automate your CompuServe calls, request information
about ProTERM Mac Messenger (PTMM). PTMM is a free offline reader and
automated "front end" for use with ProTERM Mac. PTMM can be
downloaded from our Web site Macintosh page. If you would like more
information, about PTMM, send a note to: ptmm@intrec.com
